David S. Pumpkins Returns to ‘SNL’ with Michael Myers and Other Horror Icons

NBC’s Saturday Night Live celebrated Halloween 2022 with a number of sketches inspired by the holiday airing during the show’s October 29 episode, including the return of David S. Pumpkins, who appeared in a bit that also featured Michael Myers and other horror icons.

Once again played by Tom Hanks, David S. Pumpkins returned in a segment set at “Cellblock 666: The Ride”, which takes riders to different prison cells, where the doors open to reveal a well-known horror movie killer, including Michael Myers, Annabelle (played by the always awesome Sarah Sherman), Pennywise, Freddy Krueger, and the decidedly more cheerful Pumpkins with his two skeleton cohorts, played by Mikey Day and Bobby Moynihan.

You’ve got to love that they even had Michael stabbing a nurse, as he is wearing a “blood tears” econo mask officially licensed from Halloween II, which of course takes place at Haddonfield Memorial Hospital.

Additional segments that celebrated Halloween on this episode, hosted by Jack Harlow, include the Post-Halloween Red Carpet Special, featuring 3:00 a.m. October 31st on-the-street interviews with various straggling partiers in costume, and Moynihan returned during Weekend Update to play a drunk uncle ranting about why he hates Halloween.

Also quite fitting for the season, the show aired a faux trailer for a genre film inspired by the current hit Smile and teasing the horrors of the upcoming Presidential election, as well as a wedding sketch in which the best man shows up dressed as the Joker.
