‘Renfield’ Trailer Previews Universal’s Dracula Comedy
Universal Pictures is bringing Dracula back to movie theaters this spring, and today the first official trailer for Renfield has been released online, teasing the comedic take these iconic characters, starring Nicolas Cage as the legendary vampire.
The trailer promises a fun action comedy filled with vampiric references from throughout Dracula’s cinematic history, and Cage’s interpretation looks to be something special.
From the official synopsis: Evil doesn’t span eternity without a little help. In this modern monster tale of Dracula’s loyal servant, Nicholas Hoult (Mad Max: Fury Road, X-Men franchise) stars as Renfield, the tortured aide to history’s most narcissistic boss, Dracula (Oscar® winner Nicolas Cage). Renfield is forced to procure his master’s prey and do his every bidding, no matter how debased. But now, after centuries of servitude, Renfield is ready to see if there’s a life outside the shadow of The Prince of Darkness. If only he can figure out how to end his codependency.
Placing the iconic vampire’s longsuffering but loyal servant Renfield at the center of the story for the first time, the new film is directed by Chris McKay (The Tomorrow War), from a script written by Ryan Ridley (Rick and Morty), based on an original pitch from The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman.
Nicolas Cage portrays Count Dracula, with Nicholas Hault as Renfield, and Awkwafina as Rebecca Quncy, as well as Ben Schwartz, Adrian Martinez, Shohreh Aghdashloo, and Bess Rouss. Horror icon Caroline Williams and Terrifier star Jenna Kanell also appear in the film.
Renfield arrives in theaters on April 14.
