‘Hocus Pocus 2’, ‘Wednesday’ Earn Emmy Nominations

Disney’s Hocus Pocus 2 received three Emmy nominations this week, while Netflix’s hit Addams Family series Wednesday picked up an impressive 12 nominations.

Wednesday‘s nominations include Outstanding Comedy Series, Jenna Ortega for Best Lead Actress in a Comedy Series, and Tim Burton for Best Directing for a Comedy Series,

The nomination is makes 20-year-old Ortega the second youngest woman ever nominated in the category, three years older than Patty Duke, who was 17 when she was recognized for The Patty Duke Show in 1964. This is Burton’s first Emmy nomination. Ortega is currently filming Burton’s Beetlejuice 2.

Hocus Pocus 2 is nominated for Outstanding Television Movie, as well as Outstanding Fantasy/Sci-Fi Costumes and Outstanding Music Composition For A Limited Or Anthology Series, Movie, Or Special.

The highly anticipated sequel became Disney’s biggest movie streaming premiere when it dropped on September 30, 2022. The sequel stars Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy, who return to reprise their roles as Winnifred, Sarah, and Mary Sanderson, witches from the 1600s resurrected in modern day Salem, and with Doug Jones reprising his role as Billy Butcherson.

Hocus Pocus 3 was officially announced earlier this year.

Other genre favorites who received nominations, Hulu’s Predator movie Prey is also nominated for Outstanding Television Movie and Max’s (HBO Max’s) The Last of Us received a total of 24 nominations, including Outstanding Drama Series, Pedro Pascal for Outstanding Lead Actor, and Bella Ramsey for Outstanding Lead Actress.

The 2023 Emmys presentation ceremony is scheduled to take place on September 18.
