Matthew Lillard Confirmed for ‘Scream 7’
Scream 7 is currently filming in Atlanta, and this week brought news of two unexpected returning cast members who are back for the upcoming 2026 Ghostface sequel, including Matthew Lillard from Wes Craven’s original Scream.
Lillard of course played Stu Macher in the first Scream, revealed to be one of the two original Ghostface killers before he was seemingly killed. The actor has made no secret in recent years of his desire to return to the role and belief that Stu somehow survived.
On the same day that Lillard’s return was confirmed by Deadline, it was also reported that another previous Ghostface who was thought to be dead is also coming back, with Scott Foley, who played Sydney’s half-brother Roman in Scream 3, also joining the cast.
How these characters will factor into the new film is anyone’s guess at this point, so let us hear your theories.
Filming of Scream 7 is now underway in Atlanta.
The new Ghostface sequel brings back Neve Campbell reprising her role as Sydney Prescott, as well as Courteney Cox as Gail Weathers, Jasmin Savoy Brown as Mindy Meeks-Martin, and Mason Gooding as Chad Meeks-Martin, along with new blood Isobel May as Sydney’s daughter, Celeste O’Connor (Ghostbusters: Afterlife), Mckenna Grace (Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire), Sam Rechner (The Fabelmans), Asa Germann (The Boys), Mark Consuelos, and Anna Camp (Hysteria, True Blood). Roger L. Jackson once again is the voice of Ghostface.
Franchise creator Kevin Williamson returns to direct the new movie, from a script by Guy Busick, who also co-wrote 2022’s Scream and 2023’s Scream VI.
Scream 7 will be released in theaters on February 27, 2026.
