[Interview] Milly Shapiro and Ben Sottak Talk ‘Hallowarrior’ and Halloween
Halloween never ends, even after the apocalypse in our most anticipated film of the year, Hallowarrior, and we recently talked to writer/director Ben Sottak about his intention to create an essential and highly unique new addition to your annual October watchlist, and to Milly Shapiro about what drew her to her character, Pumpkin, and bringing a new Halloween hero for the ages to life.
In our video conversation earlier this month, we also of course talked about Halloween itself, and the deep meaning it holds for both Sottak and Shapiro.
In Hallowarrior, “Pumpkin, the last girl on earth and sole survivor of a humanity-ending plague, scavenges the wasteland for supplies on the eve of Halloween. Her lonely holiday ritual is interrupted by the arrival of a savage gang of raiders at her doorstep led by the fearsome Thalia. Outnumbered and armed with candy, wit and weapons, Pumpkin must ferociously fight back to survive the night.”
Milly Shapiro (Hereditary, Hysteria) stars as Pumpkin, along with Shannyn Sossamon (A Knight’s Tale, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, Sinister 2) as Thalia, Ajani Russell (Betty), and A.J. Bowen (The Sacrament, You’re Next).
The film is written, directed, and produced by Ben Sottak, co-produced by Emmajane Hoffman and Gabriel Rosenstein.
Hallowarrior is now streaming on Shudder, and you can see it on the big screen as the closing film at our 7th Halloween International Film Festival, playing with Michael Dougherty’s Season’s Greetings and more surprise tricks and treats from Sam, on Saturday, October 24 on the Outer Banks, NC. (Tickets are on sale now here.)
