First ‘Halloween Kills’ Reactions Say It More Than Earns Its Name
Today is a big day for Halloween Kills, with the world premiere screening of the highly anticipated sequel happening at the Venice Film Festival, a new track from the official soundtrack was unleashed this morning, and a brand new image of Michael Myers has been released, paying homage to a scene from the original 1978 Halloween.
The first ever public screening of the film took place earlier today in Venice, where Jamie Lee Curtis took off her heels and walked to the stage to The Eurythmics’ “Sweet Dreams” to accept her Golden Lion Lifetime Achievement award.
Reactions and reviews from the screening(s) have made their online, and we’ve collected a few of our favorite tweets from some of those who were in the audience below.
HALLOWEEN KILLS does exactly that: it kills… A LOT. As @blumhouse‘s HALLOWEEN redefined Laurie Strode, this cements Myers as the true king of the monsters with OTT kills we haven’t seen in 40 years. Relentless, outrageous, and incredible to watch with an audience, it is insane. pic.twitter.com/O8dEEyB7pQ

#HalloweenKills is absolutely gnarly, it takes 2018’s violence up to a whole new level. It might be one of the most brutal films ever made? Naturally, it’s very entertaining, while having something to say. It’s also quite refreshing as it takes some surprising turns in its story. pic.twitter.com/on8o1PoliV

#HalloweenKills is a darker, meaner, more disturbing entry in the franchise. The kills are absolutely brutal and shocking in the best way. It was great seeing old characters again, and there is a flashback that blew my mind. Sadly, this is 100% half a film, and it ends abru pic.twitter.com/7ac1RrkWl7

Halloween Kills – Oh DAMN this is brutal af. Crazy enough, I enjoyed it. I really dug the themes it touches on – mainly that mobs are stupid and you can’t kill evil with brute force alone. Though they certainly try. Michael ain’t fuckin’ around, he’s getting stronger. #Venezia78

#HalloweenKills is a sharp sequel that proves Michael Myers still has more scares up his sleeve.https://t.co/bob7yzxcK0

We also have new comments from Jamie Lee Curtis and David Gordon Green on the film and its prescient themes.
At #VeniceFilmFestival, Jamie Lee Curtis highlighted the surprising real-world relevance of #HalloweenKills:
“There’s a line in [the film] that goes, ‘The system is broken,’…Well, the system is broken all over the world and people are rising up” https://t.co/X7LgFBhpUU pic.twitter.com/hceTsIga8b

When Curtis accepted her lifetime achievement award, she took the stage (barefoot, to the tune of “Sweet Dreams”) and said, “Thank you again for this great honor. I dedicate it to the victims and survivors of violence. All types. Physical. Political. Spiritual. Sexual. Psychological. Cultural. Emotional, Domestic, and the violence and hatred of discrimination against ANY and ALL who dare to have their own ideas and minds.
“I proudly accept this tonight with a clear, sober mind of my own and with an open and incredibly grateful heart.”
Halloween Kills will be released on October 15, 2021, and we are expecting the second trailer to drop any day now.
