‘The Skulleton’ Brings a New Slasher to Movie Screens Every Halloween
A brand new Halloween-set horror film, The Skulleton is currently filming, and the all-star cast has just been officially announced.
The film will follow Moira Cole (played by Shawnee Smith, pictured above in Saw III) who attempts to move on with her shattered life after the brutal murder of her friends and family at the hands of her deranged and obsessed cousin, Lee Morris, according IMDb. Living a quiet suburban life with her deeply affected two adult sons, Moira is constantly reminded of her past, which is strewn across movie screens every October, having been optioned into a popular horror movie franchise.
This plot sounds like a fun and original spin on the slasher subgenre that is right up our ally. And yes, HDN can confirm that The Skulleton takes place during the Halloween season.
In addition to screen legend Bruce Dern (The ‘Burbs, The Hateful Eight), the film stars genre favorites Shawnee Smith (Saw franchise pictured above, including 2023’s Saw 10), Damian Maffei (Haunt, The Strangers: Prey at Night), Tyrese Gibson (Fast & Furious franchise), and Taryn Manning (Orange is the New Black). The cast also includes Drew Moerlein (South of Hell), Alexander James Rodriguez (Netflix’s Bee and Puppycat), Jaime Zevallos (Marvel’s Cloak and Dagger), James Gaudioso (Mid-Century), and Anthony Gaudioso (What Josiah Saw), as first reported by Deadline.
The Skulleton is written by twins Anthony and James Gaudioso (Mid-Century), who also act in the film, and directed by Ante Novakovic (American Fright Fest, Sanctioning Evil). Rob Simmons and Novakovic are producing, and Laura Barbato is executive producer.
Filming has been ongoing in Connecticut, where West Hartford News visited the set earlier this month and provides some additional details, including that Tyrese Gibson plays a character names Det. Cyphers, and that the film takes place in a fictional town named “Deep Ridge Falls.”
Shooting will reportedly finish up with additional scenes to be filmed in West Hartford, Connecticut in February or March, depending on whether or not there is snow on the ground.
