Jamie Lee Curtis Thanks Horror Fans in Oscar Acceptance Speech

After receiving her first ever Academy Award nomination, for Best Supporting Actress in Everything Everywhere All At Once, Jamie Lee Curtis won the Oscar on Sunday and thanked the horror fans that she credits for giving her a career in her emotional acceptance speech.

Everything Everywhere All At Once won a total of seven Oscars at the 2023 Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Director.

In accepting her Best Supporting Actress trophy on Sunday night, Jamie Lee Curtis concluded her thank-yous with a huge nod us horror and Halloween fans, saying, “To all of the people who have supported the genre movies that I have made for all these years – the thousands and hundreds of thousands of people… WE JUST WON AN OSCAR TOGETHER. And my mother [Janet Leigh] and my father [Tony Curtis] were both nominated for Oscars in different categories. I just won an Oscar.”

While plenty of Oscar winners too often opt to ignore or downplay their horror history, it is great to see Curtis continually owning her place as a genre icon and showing her pride as the ultimate Scream Queen.
