Halloween-Set ‘Dorothy: The Haunting of Oz’ Teaser Trailer Revealed
A new independent horror film inspired by The Wizard of Oz is currently in post-production, and today are excited to share the official teaser trailer and poster for the Halloween-set Dorothy: The Haunting of Oz, as well as exclusive new comments on the project from its director.
Here is the new official synopsis: “A viral Halloween challenge unleashes the Wicked Witch of the West and Dorothy into a Northern California college town, where a group of basketball players struggle with grief, shattered dreams and devastating injuries that threaten to end their athletic futures. At the center of it all is Melanie, a young woman carrying heartbreak and childhood wounds, who finds herself pulled into the center of the haunting. What begins as an internet trend quickly turns into a waking nightmare, as the line between memory, fear, myth and the supernatural starts to disappear. As the curse spreads, Melanie is forced to confront the pain she has spent her life trying to outrun before it consumes everyone around her.”
The project marks the feature film debut of 22-year-old writer and director Elijah J. Alvarez, who also produces via his newly launched Buddy Pictures. The cast includes Michael Sullivan, Logan Laurel, Heidi Appe, Melissa Foster, Aaron Byrd, Rocky Velasco, Angela Michaela, Yvonne Orozco, and Ava Barone.
Alvarez exclusively tells Halloween Daily News, “This movie is about my generation, how Gen Z is fractured by the internet and still trying to find ourselves while life keeps stripping pieces away. We document everything, we chase feeling, and still we can’t stop the darkness from arriving. I took inspiration from George Lucas and the way he made American Graffiti, telling stories about the youth of his era in his own voice. At its core, Dorothy: The Haunting of Oz is about grief-shaped identity, the ways evil enters through the fractures in our lives, and what happens when the thing haunting us is also the part of ourselves we refuse to face. For me, horror is a powerful way to explore not just defeating the monster, but learning how to live with it.”
Stay tuned for more updates on Dorothy: The Haunting of Oz coming soon.
