[Interview] The Cruel Intentions’ Mats Wernerson Talks New Album, ‘Peacemaker’, and Halloween
The Swedish/Norwegian sleaze rock band The Cruel Intentions dropped their latest album, All Hail Hypocrisy, last week, a collection of 11 propulsive tracks that deliver all the aggression, attitude, and heart their fans are hungry for, with no filler and no skips, and we talked to bassist and co-founder Mats Wernerson recently about the new music and how the songwriting process evolved in making their third release, as well as the group’s origin, and how he initially deleted the email asking to use their songs in the HBO Max DC comics-inspired series Peacemaker.
The new album is fast and ferocious, with tight and heavy riffs, big sing along choruses, and biting sharp lyrics. And it undeniably rocks, celebrating both the glory and darkness of a never ending party, packing a hell of a punch for clocking in at just over 33 minutes.
In a our video conversation earlier this week, we also of course talked about Halloween, learning about it mainly through horror movies growing up in his native Sweden, how it’s celebrated today in his current home of Norway, what it means to Wernerson, and much more.
The Cruel Intentions’ new album All Hail Hypocrisy is out now.
