Ghostface Returns in New ‘Scream’ Movie January 2022
Paramount Pictures has announced a new release date for the upcoming fifth Scream movie, targeting January of 2022 for the return of Ghostface.
The iconic Ghostface mask is featured prominently in the tweet that announced the release date, which you can see below. The tweet states plainly enough, “On January 14, 2022… We’re going to hear you SCREAM.”
As previously announced, franchise newcomers Jenna Ortega and Melissa Barrera will join returning legacy cast members Courteney Cox, reprising her role as Gale Weathers, and David Arquette, reprising his role as Dewey Riley.
The new Scream is being directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett of the filmmaking group Radio Silence (Ready or Not, V/H/S) from a screenplay by James Vanderbilt (Murder Mystery, Zodiac, The Amazing Spider-Man) and Guy Busick (Ready or Not, Castle Rock). Creator Kevin Williamson and the third member of the Radio Silence trio, Chad Villella, are executive producing with Project X Entertainment’s Vanderbilt, Paul Neinstein, and William Sherak serving as producers.
Filming will take place in Wilmington, North Carolina.
Expect more casting updates soon.
Paramount Pictures and Spyglass Media Group will release the new Scream in theaters on January 14, 2022.
