‘Scream 6’ Release Date Set for March 2023

With a sixth Scream movie officially announced last month from Paramount Pictures and Spyglass Media Group, following the massive box office success of the latest Scream (2022) movie, an official release date for the return of Ghostface has been set for March 2023.

With filming of Scream 6 to begin this summer, Courteney Cox indicated this week that she will be back once again as Gale Weathers, her role from the first five films in the franchise. Cox told the Just for Variety With Marc Malkin podcast this week, “I got the script yesterday. And I haven’t read it yet. I just got it… I’m excited to read it.”

When asked at Mad Monster Party in February about her involvement in the next Scream film, Neve Campbell answered, “They have approached me. There’s no script yet. There is a draft coming in soon is what I was told. Actually, I was supposed to call a producer yesterday, because he wanted to talk to me about what’s going on. You know, we’ll see. I’ll read the script and see how I feel.”

Neve Campbell has played the now iconic character Sidney Prescott and faced off against Ghostface in every Scream movie so far, starting with director Wes Craven’s 1996 original.

Later at the same Q&A in February, Campbell said that she would love for Jamie Lee Curtis to play Ghostface in a future Scream film.

Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett are returning to direct the franchise’s next installment, with James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick also back to write the script. Franchise creator Kevin Williamson is back as an executive producer.

Scream 6 (which is how we’ll refer to it until an official title is announced) will arrive in theaters on March 31, 2023.

According to Cox, filming starts in June in Canada.
